The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in its December bulletin, highlighted a concerning trend, stating that the real-time inflation is adversely impacting discretionary consumer spending. This, in turn, is impeding the overall growth of manufacturing companies, including their capital expenditure, it said.

Mumbai-based businessman Harihara Mahapatra and his wife Preeti have announced a substantial investment of Rs 1,100 crore in cash-strapped SpiceJet. In an exchange filing on Tuesday, the airline said Harihara Mahapatra and Preeti Mahapatra, who are promoters of the Mumbai-based group Mahapatra Universal Limited, will jointly hold 21.98 per cent (1.99 per cent and 19.99 per cent, respectively,) stake in the airline.

Ten states, including Tamil Nadu and Telangana, have withdrawn general consent to the CBI to investigate cases in their respective jurisdictions, the Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday. Punjab, Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Mizoram, Telangana, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu have withdrawn the general consent, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply.

Centre proposes to decriminalise medical negligence in amended criminal law bill. Currently, if there is a death due to negligence of a doctor, it is also treated as criminal negligence, almost akin to murder. Death of patients under a doctor’s care is classified as criminal negligence under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code. It says that whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act shall be punished with imprison ment for up to two years, or with a fine, or with both.
