(a)  PM Modi's address begins, speaks on the importance of 108.

(b) The Prime Minister will speak on the government's Fit India movement, according to his post on X (formerly Twitter) on December 18. He also urged people to share their views on the NAMO app.

(c) He is also likely to speak on the recent assembly elections in five states, the new year and the recently passed three criminal code Bills.

1.  Telangana government has ordered a judicial investigation into alleged engineering lapses in the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project on the Godavari river. The project, worth ₹1 lakh crore ($13.5 billion), has suffered damages including sinking pillars and leaks. 

2.  A statue of martyr Udham Singh has been vandalised three days after it was unveiled in Abohar in Punjab’s Fazilka district. The statue was damaged and the pistol in its hand has gone missing. The statue was unveiled by 2 ministers on December 26.

3.  In Andhra Pradesh, Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief & Actor Pawan Kalyan wrote a letter to PM Modi seeking a probe in an alleged multi-crore scam that was carried out by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government in the name of distribution of house sites and construction of houses for the poor.

4.  Israel-Palestine conflict: Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari criticized the Muslim world for not living up to its responsibilities in the Israel-Palestine conflict and urged PM Narendra Modi to exert diplomatic pressure on Israel.

5.  The government on Sunday declared pro-Pakistan separatist group Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH), founded by late hardline separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, as a banned organisation for the next five years. The TeH was formed by Geelani in 2004 after he stepped out of the moderate Hurriyat faction led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.

The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, J&K (TeH), has been declared an 'Unlawful Association' under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The outfit is involved in forbidden activities to separate J&K from India and establish Islamic rule. 

6.  Two months after a woman student was allegedly gang-raped inside the Indian Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) campus in Varanasi, police have arrested three men in connection with the incident. 

7.  Vishva Hindu Parishad on Sunday said 'some people' have been seeking funds in the name of the Ayodhya Ram temple trust without any approval and a complaint has been made to Uttar Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Union home ministry requesting for immediate action against them.

1.   The Centre has constituted the Sixteenth Finance Commission. Former NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, Dr Arvind Panagariya who is a Professor at Columbia University, will be the Chairman of the 16th Finance Commission.

2.  The Arunachal Pradesh government on Saturday signed an agreement with the Tehri Hydropower Development Corporation India Ltd (THDCIL) for developing the 1,200-mw Kalai-II hydroelectric project in the Lohit river basin at a cost of Rs 13,000 crore.

3.  Home Minister Amit Shah said: Milk production in India has increased by about 51% in last 8 years, which is fastest growth in the world, now India has reached first place in the world's milk production with a 24% share.

1.  Vice Admiral V Srinivas, AVSM, NM took over as the 30th flag officer commanding-in-chief (FOCINC), Southern Naval Command at an impressive ceremonial parade held at Naval Base, Kochi on Sunday.

2.  The Indian Air Force plans to extend the service life of its Russian-origin combat aircraft, the Su-30 MKI, by over 20 years. The fleet has inducted 272 of these twin-engine planes, which will be the mainstay of the force for at least 15-20 years.

3.  Indian Navy has enhanced surveillance efforts and increased force levels in the Central/North Arabian Sea after the region saw multiple attacks on merchant ships this month.

Indian Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar has issued directions to take all possible actions to enhance security in the Arabian Sea region, The directions from the Navy Chief comes amid recent attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Central Arabia Sea.  The vessels that came under attack included the India-bound MV Chem Pluto, which was carrying 21 Indians onboard.

4.  Aligning with the PM Modi’s call to shed vestiges of colonialism, the Indian Navy has unveiled redesigned shoulder insignia for top Admirals incorporating elements from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s royal seal. Octagonal Shape Based on Naval Ensign. 

The Navy will rename officer ranks to reflect Indian traditions rather than Anglicized conventions.  The octagonal shape specifically references the seal of 17th century Indian ruler Shivaji, famed for pioneering naval warfare against colonial forces. 

5.  *NCC’S REPUBLIC DAY CAMP 2024 BEGINS WITH OVER 900 GIRL CADETS* :  A total of 2,274 cadets from all 28 states and eight union territories will be participating in the month-long camp this year. As many as 907 girls are in attendance, which marks the highest number of female participants in the history of the NCC Republic Day Camp.
