*Rs. 2000 DENOMINATION BANKNOTES – WITHDRAWAL FROM CIRCULATION*


*Withdrawal from Circulation*

In pursuance of Clean Bank Note Policy, RBI announced withdrawal of Rs. 2000 Denomination Banknotes from Circulation vide its Press Release dated 19th May 2023. *Previous such kind of withdrawal of Notes was undertaken in 2013-14.*


*Legal Tender*

However, Rs. 2000/- Denomination Banknotes will Continue As Legal Tender


*Issuance*

Issuance of Rs. 2000/- to Members of Public by Banks stopped with immediate effect.


*Printing*

Printing of Rs. 2000/- Denomination Banknotes was stopped in 2018-19


*Deposits of Rs. 2000/- Denomination Banknotes*

The members of public may deposit Rs. 2000/- Denomination Banknotes without any restriction in their bank account


*Exchange of Rs. 2000/- Denomination Banknotes*

Banks may exchange 2000 Rupees Banknotes upto a limit of 20,000 Rupees at a time at any bank starting from 23rd May 2023. The facility of exchange shall also be provided at the 19 regional office of RBI.


*Time line*

All Banks Shall Provide Deposit And/Or Exchange Facility For 2000 Rupee Banknotes Until September 30, 2023
